About Elvi's Kitchen

About

Elvi's Kitchen has been feeding people in San Pedro since 1974. Elvi Staines started it as a small food stand and built it into one of the most recognized restaurants on Ambergris Caye. The open-air dining room is set around a large sand floor and a living tree that grows up through the roof. It is a genuinely Belizean room, and the atmosphere is part of what makes the meal.

The menu covers local seafood, grilled meats, and Belizean classics. The lobster dishes are the thing to order when they are in season, which runs from June through February. The rice and beans, stewed chicken, and garnaches are made the way they have always been made here.

Vibe

Warm, lively, and unmistakably local. The sand floor and the tree growing through the ceiling set the tone before the food arrives. It fills up on weekend evenings, and the energy in the room reflects that. The cocktail list is long and the rum punches are cold.

Menu & Drinks

Lobster in season is the headline. The rest of the menu covers grilled fish, stewed chicken, rice and beans, and garnaches. The portions are generous and the cooking is consistent. Rum punches, Belikins, and a full cocktail list round out the drinks.

Local Tips

  • Book ahead for dinner during high season, especially on weekends.
  • Order the lobster when it is in season (June through February).
  • The garnaches are a good starter and a Belizean staple worth trying.
  • Easy to reach on foot or by golf cart from most San Pedro properties.
